What’s the difference between an inlay and an onlay?

Inlays refer to fillings placed inside the cusp tips of your tooth while onlays are placed over one or more cusps of your tooth to provide a stronger restoration.

How are inlays and onlays placed?

Having an inlay or onlay placed requires two appointments at our office. During the first visit, we will take an impression of your teeth, which will be used to create a mold for preparing the restoration. The second visit involves the placing of the inlay/onlay itself after it has been custom-made.
